Hey guys welcome back to another episode of The Journey, I'm your host Stacy Tapsell and this where I discuss a bunch of different things like content creating, business, self improvement and just keeping you updated of what's been going on lately.

First podcast for 2023 and in todays show I will be talking about something that's close to my heart which is, the courage it takes to leave a job in order to chase happiness. So, lets get into it.

Hey guys, welcome and thank you again for joining me today. I hope you've been well, you got to enjoy the break over Christmas and New Years.

Leaving a job can be a difficult and a scary decision, but sometimes it is necessary in order to chase happiness. It takes courage to make the decision to leave a job, especially if it means leaving behind a steady income and the security of a familiar work environment. However, staying in a job that does not bring you happiness can have a negative impact on your overall well-being and can lead to burnout.

The first step in making the decision to leave a job is to evaluate your current situation. Are you feeling unfulfilled in your work? Do you dread going to work every day? Are you constantly stressed and exhausted? Do you often think about chasing your side hustle, your passion? If you answered yes to any of these questions, it may be time to start considering other options.

It is important to remember that chasing happiness is a personal decision and it may not be the same for everyone. Some people may find happiness in their career, while others may find it in their personal life. It is important to evaluate what is important to you and what will make you truly happy.

For me, I was at the same company for close to 16 years, I had the best boss, the company car, six figure salary and so much more. But I just knew deep down that I would love nothing more than to chase my dream of doing my own thing and to purse happiness.

I've been working on my side hustle for a while now - which is content creating and staring my own business called Votion. Votion is a visual and a lifestyle brand. Everything you look at creates an emotion with you, it's like it's a visual emotion. I put those two words together and that's how I came up with the name Votion. Even just recently I trademarked the word Votion because I just knew this is what I wanted to pursue.

I'm at my happiest when I create content, taking photos, making videos, editing sports content for world class athletes and working on my business. I would get home from work about 6 o'clock, spend time with the family then from about 9pm to often 1am sometimes 2 in the morning I would work on my side hustle - my business and creativity.

Once you have made the decision to leave your job, it is important to have a plan in place. This may include looking for a new job, starting your own business, or taking a sabbatical. It is also important to have a financial plan in place, as leaving a job can have a financial impact.

For me, I was lucky enough to have some annual leave owing. After almost 16 years at the same company I managed to accumulate enough to cover the bills for a bit. But still, I didn't take into consideration the amount of tax that was going to be deducted from my final pay, it was a lot more than I had anticipated but nonetheless it was the path I picked and the decision we made which
is something you might want to think about when you take the leap.

Even though financially I was left short a lot more than I had thought I would, I continued to have belief and back my decision and I would say to myself "this is the path we picked, it's going to be ok, lets keep moving"

Leaving a job can be a difficult and scary decision, but it is important to remember that happiness is worth chasing. It takes courage to make the decision to leave a job and to pursue something that brings you joy and fulfilment. Remember to take the time to evaluate your current situation, have a plan in place, and don't be afraid to take the leap.

When I made the decision to chase happiness and handed in my resignation, my mindset completely changed. I was so much happier, I felt the weight off my shoulders, I constantly felt that I had a smile on my face. I was having better conversations with my kids, my family, friends. I felt I was in a whole new state of being. It's not to say that I wasn't feeling anxious, I definitely was, but I have belief. Belief that I trust the process and belief in my ability.

It is also important to be kind and compassionate with yourself, and remember that change is hard and it is ok to feel scared or uncertain but it is also important to remember that change can lead to growth and new opportunities.

For me, the most important thing I've been doing since I left my job was ensuring I focused on my wellbeing, this is through creating a routine. Everyday I make sure I do at least these three things: working on my mental, my physical and my spiritual wellbeing.

Things like, reading pages from a book every morning as soon as I wake up instead of reaching for my phone. Looking at social media, emails that people are wanting something from you or even negative texts before you get out of bed can subconsciously put you into a negative state of mind.

Break a sweat each day, if not each day then every second day. Move your body, go for a walk and listen to a podcast (educate yourself while exercising), grab some weights and do a driveway workout. And also, ensure you drink at least a bottle of water each day.

If you're needing some inspiration or motivation feel free to check out my Instagram at Stacy Tapsell. I often post up content of workouts, books I'm reading, things like that to help encourage others.

When you go into the known your mind is going to challenge you. It's going to create doubt, it's going to create negativity, it's going to create fear and it's going to question your ability.

The say 'an entire sea of water can't sink a ship unless it gets inside the ship. similarly, the negativity can't put you down unless you allow it to get inside you"
Having a daily routine will help you though these moments. Often we make impulsive decisions when doubt creeps in, or when we start trying to chase money rather than sticking to the process.

Like DJ Khalid says 'you don't chase the money, the money gonna chase you. All
you gotta do, is just be great"

Overall, leaving a job to chase happiness is a personal decision that requires courage and a plan. But, it can lead to a more fulfilling and happier life. So, if you're feeling unfulfilled or unhappy in your job, don't be afraid to take the leap and chase your happiness.

Thank you for reading, as always I truly appreciate you and I look forward to seeing you in the next one.

Peace

Stacy
